In the northwest part of the North Carolina piedmont lies a small, beautiful mountain range called the Sauratown Mountains. They are named after the Saura people, Native Americans that inhabited this corner of the state.  The mountains are low, but beautiful, very craggy, and covered with plants and animals expected in the higher Blue Ridge which is nearby.
