Providence Canyon
Providence Canyon is a State Park in Georgia. It is actually a beautiful gully that formed from centuries of poor farming practice. When you are looking at it, if you didn’t know better, you would think you were in Southern Utah.
I took Lynley to Providence Canyon on Memorial Day, 2008. We had been dating almost 4 months at the time. I painted this for her as a birthday gift that summer.
I love the different colors on the formations in the canyon, and the luminescent quality of the light as it strikes the clay. As I painted this I hinted at vegetation, but let the mind fill in the details. This is actually how we see most things.

Fun painting, Jared. I like the red specks the best. They remind me of mountain berries.
Beautiful!
