For a few years, Nauvoo was the center of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints. It was a beautiful utopia on the Mississippi River. The crown jewel of the city was the Nauvoo Temple.
After the Mormons were driven out of Illinois and headed west, the temple fell into ruin and was destroyed. Later the LDS Church bought much of the historic city, and in 1999 announced the Nauvoo Temple would be rebuilt. When I heard this I was very excited.
Our Temples are where we perform ordinances to make it possible for families to be together, even after death. We have marriages in the temples, which are supposed to be eternal. Nauvoo is where a couple of my siblings were married, and is a beautiful place. I love Temples!
