I love old courthouses. Back before modernism, they were the jewel of the county. They were the heart of the community. As communities have grown, the courthouses have been replaced, due to lack of size and resources. Luckily many of them are re purposed. This is the Jackson County Courthouse in North Carolina. It is […]
The mountains of North Carolina are lush and beautiful. There are lots of fun small towns, surrounded by soaring peaks and rushing rivers. One of the great ways to see them is on the Great Smoky Mountain Railroad. This painting is of the train pulling into Dillsboro, during an art fair. I love the composition […]
Today my nephew is getting married. He is the first of the next generation to be married. This is happening at the Oquirrh Mountain Temple, in South Jordan, Utah. We are members of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints. We believe that when we marry in our temples, we are sealed to our […]
I have been on many road trips. Late at night, when I get tired and need a break, the bright colors and lights of a gas station are like a beacon, drawing me in. I know I can find food, and a bathroom, which although not of the highest quality, are available, and open, even […]
I love my little girls. They are fun and adventurous. Last spring we went to the beach, and they had fun playing on the edge of the water with me. We saw Conch shells, Jellyfish, and even a snake skeleton. We especially enjoyed just letting the waves wash over our toes. We couldn’t swim, there […]
Indiana is one of the places I consider home. For the past 20 years it is where my family has been. It is a beautiful, peaceful, underrated state. One of my favorite things to do is to go driving out in the country, especially in the early hours of the day, when the world is […]
Walking in the rain is therapeutic to me. Some do not like it and will just scurry inside, but when you have paid a bundle of money to be somewhere, you make do. Throwing on a poncho or walking beneath an umbrella is a soluton that some take. These are people enjoying the Magic Kingdom […]
Holidays are about visiting with family. One of my favorite things I do during my holidays is exploring with my Dad. Last year we went all over southeastern Indiana, just taking the back roads. This painting is of Dad, walking down the festive streets of Aurora, Indiana.
Temples are important in my faith. It is where families are sealed together, so that they are with each other after death. Recently a young couple my wife and I have worked with got married at the Raleigh Temple. What a happy day! I did this painting for them.
One of the things I love about spring and summer is the powerful thunderstorms. They are so massive and sublime. In this pastoral scene I have chosen to portray these cows grazing just as a storm is about to hit.
