Railroads were the life blood of manufacturing towns. Asheboro grew on the backs of the hosiery mills. The railroad came through town, taking the socks to the world to be sold. This is a painting of Sunset Street, looking east from where the railroad crosses the middle of town.

I think county courthouses are neat. Especially older ones with interesting architectural details. For example, in Greensburg, Indiana, there is a tree growing from the top of the courthouse. This painting is of the Randolph County Courthouse, in Asheboro. In front there is a war monument, and next to the courthouse, in an older building, […]

I love cars from the 50s. The curves, the fenders, the chrome. They are just so cool! I was out front of our Antique mall and saw this neat car. It fit well with the building, that used to be a supermarket. The reflections and light in the windows were great. It needed to be […]

I love old buildings. It is great when empty buildings in town find new life and new uses.  This is a great example.  The Table is a trendy eatery that serves nice salads and sandwiches in Asheboro. I love the open feeling, and all of the light. They have made this old building beautiful again!

I love rainy days. The world gets washed clean. Colors are richer, and everything is shiny.  The air smells fresh, and things are quiet and peaceful.  Rain brings water that renews and refreshes the earth, and causes everything to grow.  This is a painting of Sylva, a cute mountain town in Western North Carolina. It […]

One of my favorite times to be downtown is at night when it is all lit up.  I proposed to my wife when we were in downtown Indianapolis.  Indiana has a neat looking State Capitol building.  I love this view looking toward the capitol, in the rain, at night. I […]

This is a painting of Tunnel Mountain Crafts Gallery in Dillsboro.  It is a cute little tourist town, filled with coffee shops and galleries. My first experience with Dillsboro was speaking with Connie Hogan, the owner of the gallery. She is on top of things. I was really impressed. I really love this area in […]

I love visiting interesting little towns through out the country. There is so many fun places, and such interesting architecture.  Last week I went with my Dad to Dillsboro, North Carolina. It is a tiny tourist town in the Plott Balsam Mountains, near Great Smoky Mountain National Park. As we were walking around we saw […]

London is such a cool city. There is so much history and culture. Modern buildings are next to thousand year old walls. When we were in London we got to do a evening cruise on the Thames. It was a great way to get to know the city as the river flows through the heart […]

I have never been one to party. Mostly I like to be home after dark. However, being downtown in a big city at night is beautiful. The skyscrapers lit up are great, and the neon glowing in the night is beautiful. This is a painting of Indianapolis at night. It is from a photo my […]
