On a hot day, it is wonderful to sit outside as the evening cools down and spend time with family and friends. Even better is when the surroundings are beautiful, and the food is good. This is my painting of people enjoying a warm summer night in Indianapolis. The glass building nearby is the arts […]
This was a fun painting. I love the rhythm of the repeating lines and shapes. The one point perspective the buildings create as they get smaller to a vanishing point, and the scale of the people and cars create a strong sense of depth. The warm and cool color contrast creates a vibrant and exciting […]
This last saturday I participated in a Plein Air event in Fuquay Varina, North Carolina. Half of the proceeds from auctioning the paintings went to their Downtown Revitalization, and half goes to the artist. I was asked to paint this restaurant / Tavern, called The Mason Jar Tavern. When I was about 1/2 way through, […]
Worth Street in Asheboro, North Carolina, is a historic street where the former Governor had his home. The Courthouse, the Library, and many Law Firms are also located here. There are some beautiful homes. This painting is a view of three of the prettiest homes.
Hop’s Bar- B- Q is a fixture in Asheboro. It has been open for more than 60 years. It is one of those “Hole in the Wall” kind of restaurants that give a town it’s character. I love the reflections and the light in this painting.
I enjoy small businesses and old homes. This gallery has both. I love the big porch and the tall rooms, as well as the large windows. The gallery has lots of interesting things, from paintings to tea. I chose this picture to paint because of the way the building is backlit, and the way the […]
Railroads were the life blood of manufacturing towns. Asheboro grew on the backs of the hosiery mills. The railroad came through town, taking the socks to the world to be sold. This is a painting of Sunset Street, looking east from where the railroad crosses the middle of town.
I think county courthouses are neat. Especially older ones with interesting architectural details. For example, in Greensburg, Indiana, there is a tree growing from the top of the courthouse. This painting is of the Randolph County Courthouse, in Asheboro. In front there is a war monument, and next to the courthouse, in an older building, […]
I love cars from the 50s. The curves, the fenders, the chrome. They are just so cool! I was out front of our Antique mall and saw this neat car. It fit well with the building, that used to be a supermarket. The reflections and light in the windows were great. It needed to be […]
I love old buildings. It is great when empty buildings in town find new life and new uses. This is a great example. The Table is a trendy eatery that serves nice salads and sandwiches in Asheboro. I love the open feeling, and all of the light. They have made this old building beautiful again!
