Castle Gate

This is another watercolor from my England series.  We visited Warwick Castle, north of London.  It was celebrating 1100 years of having a fortress on the location. This gate formerly had a drawbridge.  There were murder holes as you entered the keep.  This part of the castle was built in the time of William the Conquerer.  Warwick Castle was under siege during the English Civil War. I thought it was a really cool place.

I created the texture and look of stone through multiple washes.Castle Gate
