I am interested in my Genealogy, and the cultures of my ancestors. I especially am fond of learning about Britain. My Mother’s family was from Wiltshire, the area of England where Stonehenge, and Avebury are. I am interested in the large stone circles the ancient Britons made, as well as the other megalithic monuments.

This painting was influenced by the idea of a standing stone. I worked from that iconography to create an interesting design. I chose colors that were less common for me to use. (Except I almost always end up using blue. I guess I just can’t get away from it.)

One way to come up with a composition is to take an idea, and play off of it. Hide it in places, let it become dominant in others. Reflect the idea in some of the other shapes. Have a conversation with your painting, letting it speak to you.

After Tom’s comment, I guess I’ll be seeing golf bag and clubs – power of suggestion!
