At the Wharf

I love big rivers. It is one of the best things about the eastern third of the United States. It is a wet climate, so water has to go somewhere. The first big river i lived close to was the Ohio.  It is a beautiful, massive body of water.

Rivers were the first highways.  The native people would use them for trade. Later, Pioneers used them to move through the dense forests of the east.  They still are used for commerce and recreation.

Here is my painting of a riverboat at the wharf. I love the warm vs cool contrast between the winter landscape, and the sky and river.  I have always been interested in the juxtaposition of man made in the natural landscape.
