At the Dock

I love water, and especially  Mountain Lakes. There is something calming about being on a boat out in the water.  I spent most weekends during the non frozen season of my youth in a canoe with my dad. It was wonderful.

Lynley and I honeymooned on the Blue Ridge Parkway.  One place she had wanted to visit was Lake Lure, and nearby Chimney Rock. The Last of the Mohicans was filmed there, and she loved the scenery. Also much of Dirty Dancing was filmed at Lake Lure.  We weren’t able to make it during our honeymoon, but for her 29th birthday, right after we moved to North Carolina, I took her there for her present.

This painting is from our boat, as we were pulling out of the docks. I really enjoy the geometry of the boats, against the organic water and mountains. Lake Lure is gorgeous!
